Things to Consider while Purchasing a New Socket Plug
While choosing any electrical outlet like a socket plug, it’s important to keep in mind that we are buying the right one. There should not be any overlooking. After all, an electric current is not something that can be taken lightly and nobody wants to see their house burn down.
And that is why this article will help you make up a standard to buy the right socket plug such as a Connector plug.
Read on to make your checklist for all the necessary specifications of a new socket plug.
1. Material
Two different kinds of material should be taken into consideration.
Outer Shell
The outer shell material of any plug is very important. It is a very essential part of the safety feature of any socket plug. It should be made of great insulating material. The most common material used is polyamide and plastic.
Conductor Material
This is the material that goes into the socket and is responsible for the conduction of the current through the pins. You must have seen those two or three-pin plugs. As for the material used, brass is the only choice at present.
2. Current
This should be the main parameter while choosing a new socket plug. After all, you don’t want any of your electrical devices to overheat. Each Connector plug has a different range as well.
3. Voltage
The range of voltage of a socket plug can be more versatile than its current range. Just like charging sockets plugs can have a minimum voltage of 1.5V up to a higher one for fast charging. Most of the housing plugs have a range of less than 240V. Those with more than 1000V are called industrial plugs. On the other hand, 3 socket plug (ปลั๊ก 3 ตา, which is the term in Thai) also has high voltage capacity.
4. Ingress Protection Rating
This rating is given on behalf of how dustproof and waterproof a socket plug is. IP44, IP45, IP67 are the main categories for waterproof industrial socket and plug. The higher the rating, the better waterproof and dustproof it is!
Also, remember that the specifications vary over a wide range when it comes to choosing industrial socket plugs. Even an industrial Connector plug (ปลั๊ก, term in Thai) can be a lot more sophisticated than that of a housing one. And always make sure that whatever product you are buying, it has a warranty. That will be very helpful in case any mishap happens or you are not satisfied with it. Also, each country has its own authentication mark for electrical products. So, be aware of that.
